JCB’s innovation with a groundbreaking “clean” engine has been honoured with two prestigious accolades.
The JCB Ecomax T4 has scooped the coveted 2011 Diesel Engine of the Year Award (DOTY) by Italian magazine Diesel. It has also won an award for innovation from the organizers of the SIMA agricultural show in Paris.
JCB has invested around £80 million in developing the new JCB Ecomax – which is a 4.4 litre engine – and is the latest generation JCB Dieselmax engine. It has led to an industry-first solution that eliminates the need for any exhaust after-treatment and delivers cost saving for customers. The JCB Ecomax has been very well-received by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) around the world and demand is high.
The DOTY award is particularly good news in Italy because it has the biggest OEM market in the EU for engine sales. Marco Bersellini, Managing Director of JCB Italy said: “Since 1986, the DOTY has been awarded to the most technical and innovative engine for industrial and automotive applications."
The winning engine is entitled to use the Diesel of the Year logo and is featured in a special article in the magazine.”
The company is now developing the Tier 4 Final Stage IV emission level engine.
Alan Tolley JCB’s Director of Power Systems said: “.This is a massive challenge but also a huge opportunity for innovation an opportunity to come up with a solution that has real advantages for our customers. We believe the result is not only the off-highway sector’s cleanest engine but a first for our industry.”
